Biagio di Miceli is born around 1802 in Corleone, the son of Francesco di Miceli and Francesca Terranova. His birth year is based on his age in the 1807 stato delle anime, a Church census. Based on his ages at the birth of his son, Paolo, and at his death, Biagio is three years younger.
In 1807, Francesco, 31 (b. 1776), Francesca, 27 (b. 1780), and Biagio live in the third vanella, or alley, from the Canzoneri church, traveling away from Santa la Croce di Elena (the church of Sant'Elena). The name Bernardo/a is started, given an age, nine, and crossed out before being completed. No other record of this child has yet been found. The younger child, Biagio, is five (b. 1802). Francesco's home is between the families of his brothers, Simone and Innocenzo. Their widowed mother lives with Innocenzo, the oldest of the three.[1]
Biagio is a farmer (agricola). He marries twice, first to Orsola Sinatra, the daughter of Vincenzo Sinatra and Calogera Trumbatore, on 10 January 1830 in Corleone.[2]
Biagio marries Salvatrice Oliveri on 10 November 1839.[3]
Biagio and Salvatrice have at least five children: Francesca (1841), two daughters named Filippa (1842 and c. 1855), Paolo (1845), and Calogero (1848).
Francesca is born and baptized on 2 January 1841. Her godparents are Leonardo and Girolama Firmaturi, a married couple.[4]
The first daughter named Filippa is born and baptized on 30 December 1842. Her godparents are Leoluca Sinatra and his wife, Caterina Cardella.[5]
Paolo is born 27 June 1845 in his parents' home in Corleone. The midwife, Francesca Paola De Luca, age 41, reports his birth, and gives Salvatrice's age as 24 (b. 1821) and Biagio's age as 40 (b. 1805), his occupation, agricola (farmer).[6]
Calogero is born and baptized on 18 April 1848. His godparents are Calogero and Lucia Cortimiglia, brother and sister.[7]
Filippa dies on 12 September 1850 at seven and a half years of age.[8]
Filippa has a sister with the same name who survives to marry. Her sister's baptismal record has not yet been found. I have estimated she is born the last year her father is living, in 1855.
Biagio dies at age 50 (b. 1805) on 22 January 1856. He is survived by his second wife, Salvatrice.[9]
The surviving Filippa marries Giovanni Coniglio on 28 October 1879. [10]
